Technology Tuesday: Toy Story App, Spanish Edition

This week I am reviewing an app that I found called Toy Story Read-AlongApp by Disney. This is a book application that reads the Toy Story in Spanish to the user.

I found this app through the English version and was so excited that I hoped they had a version in Spanish. This is a reading, game, video, coloring and listening app for kids all in one. The app is revolved around the telling of the story of the movie Toy Story 1. This story is one that most kids are familiar with. Most of my students have seen the movie, for those who had not, it is a simple enough story that students understand what is going on fairly easily. Because of the simple story, students do not spend time decoding meaning, they understand the basic idea of what is happening. This is a great opportunity for students to hear Spanish (a perfect center activity.)

As students navigate through the story told in Spanish. Be mindful that the speaker speaks with a Spanish accent (from Spain.) Check out the demo version of the app below:

After discovering this app, I found another app that is very exciting. Disney has used a similar platform to create a language learning app. The app is only available right now in Chinese, but hopefully they will come out with a Spanish version soon. While the app listed above is meant to be a reading app, Learn Chinese, Toy Story 3 is meant to specifically teach students language (think Rosetta Stone made by Disney.) Check out this review by Publishing Perspectives.

Let's hope that the Spanish version of this app comes out soon!
